Papua New Guinea is renowned for its vibrantly colored birds, and many tribal groups utilize their plumes to adorn traditional headdresses and costumes, particularly in the Highlands. Other bird species include parrots, pigeons, kingfishers, kokomos (hornbills), palm cockatoos, and Papua New Guinea’s largest bird, the giant cassowary.

Bird enthusiasts should take the time to visit the National Botanical Garden in Port Moresby, located just past the university on Waigani Drive. In addition to a walk through the jungle canopy, wildlife specimens include cuscus, birds of paradise, cassowaries, and parrots.
