Trip Overview

This 8-day trip is a FAM Trip (Familiarization Trip) specially designed for tour guides and travel professionals wishing to discover Papua New Guinea. It offers an intense Highlands experience with an excellent balance of culture, nature and authentic village experience.

This compact tour allows you to discover the highlights of the Highlands: birdwatching at Kumul Lodge, immersion in a Kuman village at Kagai, Asaro Mudmen show, visit to the beautiful coastal town of Madang, and exploration of Port Moresby. Ideal for a first in-depth discovery of PNG in a limited time.

Detailed Program

• Day 1: Arrival Port Moresby - Flight Mount Hagen
  Welcome at the international terminal by your guide. Transfer to the domestic terminal for your flight to Mount Hagen. Check-in at your hotel and first meeting with our local team in Hagen, including your future tour guides.

• Day 2: Kumul Lodge - Bird watching
  Early departure for Kumul Lodge. On arrival, first bird-watching session. On the way back, hot coffee on the Kumul Lodge veranda to observe the many species coming to the feeders. Then another jungle walk in search of orchids, before lunch. In the afternoon, a short hike to a beautiful waterfall before returning to Mount Hagen.

• Day 3: Kimdika - Kagai - Mindima (Skeletons)
  Early departure from Mount Hagen. After a two-hour drive, we reach the village of Kagai. First stop for a walk in Kimdika Park, a newly created natural park offering magnificent scenery and numerous opportunities to observe endemic flora and fauna. Continue through the famous Waghi Valley to the village of Mindima, where you’ll witness the incredible spectacle of the Skeletons. Arrive in Kagai after lunch. Here, in the midst of beautiful mountains with breathtaking views over the valley, you enjoy a traditional village welcome and a simple yet beautiful and welcoming guesthouse. Surrounded by incredible flower gardens, the amenities are basic but the welcome and atmosphere are 5-star. After lunch, stroll through the village and visit the school and dispensary.

• Day 4: Kagai - Village activities - Towards Goroka
  The day begins with a delicious breakfast and continues with a tour of the village. You’ll visit the school and dispensary, the various plantations and enjoy views of the valleys and high mountains. In the afternoon, drive to Goroka. Check-in at your hotel.

• Day 5: Goroka - Mudmen Asaro - Sightseeing
  Visit to the Mudmen village of Asaro. Sightseeing around Goroka: market, coffee factory, museum, etc.

• Day 6: Goroka to Madang
  An early start! You leave Goroka early and head down to the north coast to reach Madang! Here, 30 minutes from the city, you’ll reach the Jais Aben Hotel and enjoy their private beach.

  Accommodation: Jais Aben Hotel – Meals : P.D. – Transfer : 6h drive

• Day 7: Flight Port Moresby - Sightseeing
  Morning flight to Port Moresby. Meeting with our guide for visits to Port Moresby: National Museum, Botanical Garden, etc.

  Accommodation: Sanctuary Hotel – Meals: P.D.

• Day 8: International flight
  You will be escorted and assisted to check-in for your international departure.
