Trip Overview

This 17-day trip is our most complete exploration of Papua New Guinea. It combines all the highlights: the spectacular Mount Hagen Show, the Kalam Festival in the remote village of Simbai, birdwatching and exploration of the mysterious Sepik River.

Your adventure begins in the Highlands with an exclusive cultural encounter, followed by two full days at the Mount Hagen Show where 70 to 90 tribal groups gather in celebration. You’re immersed in a whirlwind of color, feathers, song and spectacular dance.

You then take a charter flight to Simbai, a remote village in the heart of the Bismarck mountains, accessible only by air. For three days, you’ll attend the Kalam Festival, the initiation ceremony of young boys into adulthood. This off-the-beaten-track experience immerses you in total authenticity, with overnights in village guesthouses.

The trip continues with bird-watching at Kumul Lodge, then exploration of the Sepik River where you meet the Iatmul crocodile-men and discover ancestral tribal art in the stilt villages.
